In 1976 she graduated from the Faculty of Biology of the Ivan Franko Lviv State University with the specialty in “Biochemistry. Lecturer of Biology and Chemistry”. From 1976 till 1978 Fira L.S. had been working as a junior researcher in the laboratory of malignant tumors correcting therapy at the Lviv State Medical Institute. From 1978 to present she has been working in the I.Ya. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University. During her time at the university worked as senior laboratory assistant, junior researcher, senior researcher, assistant, assistant professor of biochemistry. Fira L.S. Defended candidate thesis in the specialty 03.00.04 – biochemistry under the direction of Prof. Ya. I. Honskiy in 1988.

Since 2003 Lyudmila Stepanivna has been working at the pharmaceutical faculty. In 2003 she defended a doctoral thesis "Metabolic disturbances in rats infected with sodium nitrite, carbon tetrachloride and low doses of radiation, and the ways of their correction" in the specialty 03.00.04 - biochemistry. In 2004 Fira L.S. received the title of Professor. In 2006 she graduated from the National Pharmaceutical Faculty in the specialty "Pharmacy", qualification - a pharmacist.

From 2003 to 2009 Lyudmila Stepanivna headed the Department of Pharmacognosy with medical botany, from 2009 to 2013 - headed the department of pharmaceutical chemistry. From September 2013 she is the head of the Pharmacy Department of Educational Scientific Institute of Postgraduate Education

The 9 candidate dissertations were done under the guidance of Fira L.S. (4 in the specialty 03.00.04 - biochemistry, 3 in the specialty 14.03.05 - Pharmacology and 2 in the specialty 14.03.04 - pathological physiology). Currently under the guidance of Fira L. S. 2 PhD theses and a 2 dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Science are performed.

She is the author and co-author of more than 200 educational, methodical and scientific publications. Over the past 5 years Lyudmila Stepanivna has received five patents for utility model and is the author of four newsletters.

Scientific interests - investigation of metabolic disorders in animals under the conditions of liver and myocardial damage by chemical, physical and biological toxicants, the search of new drugs of plant origin with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepato- and cardioprotective properties and pharmacological correction of toxic liver disease and cardiomyopathy of ischemic origin.
